Research at the International Center for German-Russian Studies

The Center’s 2009-2010 research plans include:

  • Initial inventories of German-Russian archival materials. Agreements between Russian state archives and Saratov State University will make civil documents, many of them for the first time, legally accessible to foreign researchers. CSU will partner with Saratov to assess German-Russian materials in Russia and begin planning for a globally accessible, digital archive. Documents include family immigration lists with names and ages, settlement census and tax lists, and church records of christenings, weddings, and burials. Other materials include period maps and early photos of German-Russian settlements in the Volga River, Black Sea, and Caucasus regions. The Center plans to begin a pilot project with North Caucasus Church records in 2009.
  • Distribution of German-Russian teaching and research resources. The CSU Center will work with the Saratov Center to translate, publish, and distribute works about German-Russian settlements in Russia, including video documentaries and photographs of textiles, crafts, and other museum holdings.
  • A 2009 German-Russian conference at CSU. The Center plans to hold a 2-day German-Russian research and community event in June 2009. The conference will include scholarly and community presentations on the German-Russian diaspora and German-Russian traditions in Colorado.
